Making an impact on medical, educational and recreational programming for people of all ages with Down Syndrome 💛💙

Sam is so lucky because there are many who champio Sam is so lucky because there are many who champion her and support her and each year we have more than one person to honor. Tonight, I am deeply honored to present this recognition to Deb Lagasse. She is more than a tutor to my daughter, Samantha. She is a mentor, a guide, and a true believer in my daughter’s dreams. Cosmetology is a tough field. The state exam requires learning difficult science, safety rules, and precise techniques. For Sam, who has Down syndrome, processing some of these complex concepts takes extra time and creative approaches. Deb never sees a barrier, only a challenge. Instead, she finds a bridge. Week after week, she brings endless patience, tailored study guides, and joy to every single lesson. She stays late, she reviews flashcards until they are worn out, and she refuses to let Sam give up. Because of this hard work, I see a transformation. Sam does not just memorize answers—she understands them. She stands taller, speaks with pride, and believes in her future as a licensed cosmetologist. Deb, you gave our family a priceless gift. You gave us your time, your expertise, and your whole heart. Thank you for seeing Sam for the brilliant, capable young woman she is. Please join me in congratulating and thanking an extraordinary teacher, Deb Lagasse.
Our annual golf tournament was Friday night and we Our annual golf tournament was Friday night and we are honored to have two awards!

There is a well-known saying that “opportunity is a door that must be opened.” Tonight, I am here to honor someone who didn’t just open a door for my daughter—he built a whole new hallway of possibilities.
Alex Safar owns a salon on Newbury Street. He says that he has always been drawn to people with Down syndrome and thought it would be important to have someone with Down syndrome to work with. Alex wasn’t doing this for charity. He wanted to give someone a chance. Samantha found a place where her energy, her dedication, and her love for people could shine. In the beauty industry, it can be easy to focus only on outward appearances. But a truly exceptional salon owner looks deeper. They see potential, talent, and heart.
Alex, when you welcomed Sam into your salon, you didn’t see limitations. You saw a future team member. You continue to give her the training, the patience, and the platform to grow. Because of your mentorship, she isn’t just working with you—she is thriving. She comes home every day filled with pride, confidence, and a sense of belonging that every parent wishes for their child.
By creating an inclusive workplace, you didn’t just change Samantha’s life. You showed your clients, your staff, and our entire community what true leadership looks like. You proved that when you give people a genuine chance, they don’t just fill a role—they elevate the entire environment.
Thank you for your vision, your big heart, and your unwavering belief in my daughter. It is my absolute honor to present the Samantha’s Buddy Award to Alexander Safar.

Greg Norman was definitely onto something when he Greg Norman was definitely onto something when he implied that hitting a long shot onto the green is as close to nirvana as a golfer can probably get. That being said, not every shot will require a long, triumphant walk to the green. Some of us hit shots deep into the weeds, ricochet off of tree trunks, or onto a neighboring hole’s fairway. In those moments, it’s important that we channel Gilmore and find our own little Happy Place. Come find your Happy Place at our tournament on Friday, September 11 with Sam!
